A New Chapter: We’re Moving to Substack
For years, this site has been the home for our deep history explorations. However, in the spirit of finding a better “flow” and maintaining the clarity needed to balance a very full life, I’ve decided to move all future long-form content and updates to a new home: Deep History on Substack.
Why the Change?
If there is one thing that graduate research and Stoic reflection have taught me, it’s the importance of removing unnecessary friction. Between my MA thesis work at IPT, my responsibilities at Spirit Trucking, and—most importantly—being a father to Avery and a partner to Kota, time is my most precious resource.
Managing a full website backend often feels like trying to excavate a site with a spoon—it’s possible, but it isn’t efficient. Substack allows me to focus entirely on the writing and the science, delivering it directly to your inbox without the technical overhead. It’s a cleaner, more structured way for me to share my research and for us to stay connected.
What to Expect
The mission remains exactly the same: keeping complex science accessible, ethical, and engaging. By moving to the new platform, you can actually expect more frequent updates, including:
- MA Research Updates: Deep dives into my current work on Neanderthal symbolic behavior and the evolution of art.
- Life in Portugal: Observations and updates from Mação and my work with the Geosciences Center (CGeo).
- The Story of Us & #PaleoPostPodcast: Centralized links and context for all my SciComm projects.
- Deep History Insights: The same rigorous, non-sensationalized look at our human origins that you’ve come to expect from WOPA.
Join Me There
I’m not going anywhere; I’m just moving to a better lab. I would love for you to continue this journey with me. It’s the simplest way to ensure you don’t miss any of the new discoveries or updates coming this year—especially with the Indonesia trip and the June visit from my family on the horizon.
